DOLPHINS – Pirate Days

IT’S A PIRATE’S LIFE FOR ME!

We have had two adventure filled weeks in the dolphin’s group as we have experienced pirate life!
The children took their pirate maps they had created outside to help locate treasure…
Ask your child, what is a map and what do we use them for?

Each child had a spoon and container to dig up treasure. X marked the spot..

Children were fascinated with the pirate treasure sensory play table that was indoors also…

alt

Pirate ship play was a popular activity….

alt

Boats were created from cork, pipecleaners and material that floated on the water….  Ask your child to explain the difference between floating and sinking.

alt

Pirate puzzles made a fun group activity…. Ask your child to join you in putting together a puzzle.  It is great for the brain and the small muscle manipulation too.

Loot and popcorn snacks were enjoyed outside…..

Our last pirate day included a walk across the gang plank, with key in hand,
to find the treasure box and gold!  Good balance skills help us to be better learners.

Ask your child to unlock the door, it’s good for their eye-hand coordination and it makes them feel important to do such an important task.

The dolphins also learned the poem,”Jack Be Nimble”
and recited as everyone had turns jumping the candlestick.
Great Job!

Memorizing and reciting nursery rhymes are crucial pre-reading skills.
Children were volunteering to sing the “R-E-D” song that we learned.
We were all so proud of them!
