What Would You Do?

Children don’t always need prompts to encourage writing, but the above picture was irresistible.  The Bluebirds were given this picture printed on a piece of paper and asked, “What would you do if an alligator knocked on your door?”  The children were very intrigued and excited by the photo.  Many of them “wrote” their own answers to the question and others only dictated their responses to a teacher.  Here are the children’s words.  We hope you enjoy them as much as we did!

To Harlie there is strength in numbers:  “No alligator is getting in the house.  My mama, my daddy, Hailey, me and Hayden are there.”

Aydin, Dylan and Nathaneal wouldn’t wait for the authorities:  “I’d punch him in the face!”  “I’d beat him up and him go home.”  “Kill him with a sharp knife.”

Johnny wouldn’t wait for the authorities either:  “RUN . . . if he gets in the house he bites!”

Lilly, Adrianne, Carter, and Neely would do just as they were taught to do if a stranger knocks at their door:  “call my dad,” “I’d get my mama,” “I would call my mom and my dad,” “get my daddy.”

Noah knows how to fight fair:  “If my brothers were home I’d get my brother Joe and tell him to get his pretend light saber to get the alligator.”

Dane knows how to make alligators talk:  “I would open it and make the alligator fall down and say ahhhhh.”

Father – son bonding would come in handy for Wyatt:  “The alligator would be killed by my dad because we go hunting.”

Desiree gave an honest answer, probably the same answer most of us would give:  “I don’t know.”

Many of us would also agree with Chloe’s instinct:  “not let him in”

Nolan agrees with Chloe and for good reason:  “Not let him in because I would be scared.”

Porter would give the alligator a chance:  “It was a small one and he was nice and we played.  If it’s a bad alligator – he’s gone!”

Kolby had no worries:  “I would laugh.  He wouldn’t get in because I would be at my dad’s house.”

Areet would tame him with kindness:  “I miss you . . . is what I would say.”
